Hong Kong, December 9, 2002 - TOM.COM LIMITED ("TOM" or "the TOM Group", stock code: 8001) announced today that Wang Lei Lei has been appointed a Non-Executive Director of the company effective immediately. Mr Wang replaces Feng Qi who has just stepped down as a Non-Executive Director. Mr Wang's current management position and responsibilities as Deputy Chief Operating Officer and Head of Online Operation of TOM will remain unchanged.
Wang Lei Lei has been a senior executive with TOM since the company was founded. Joining TOM in January 2000, Mr Wang has contributed greatly to establishing TOM as one of Greater China's leading online operators.
As Head of TOM's Online Operation, Mr Wang has made enormous strides in integrating the different online businesses TOM has acquired into its online platform, and building an efficient operation with a lean cost structure. He has also diversified revenue sources by driving the development of various fee-based services including mobile/paid e-mail and telecom value-added services such as virtual ISP card TOMNET.
Under Wang's leadership, TOM is currently cooperating with China Mobile in providing MMS content, another milestone in the development of TOM's online business. Despite a competitive market environment, TOM's narrowband business achieved cash flow break-even in the third quarter of 2002. This has taken just 27 months, the shortest timeframe of any leading Mainland portal.
Mr Wang said he was very excited to join the board of directors and to work more closely with other board members in taking the company forward.
Aged 29, Mr Wang graduated from the University of Qinghua in 1996 with a bachelor degree in electronic engineering. Prior to joining TOM, he served as President and General Manager of Beijing Yan Cheng Zhi Science Company Ltd.
