PARKnSHOP launches Children's Education Fund-raiser
and introduces exclusive Savings Plan
to help put Hong Kong children on course for success

(HONG KONG - May 17, 2001) PARKnSHOP today initiated a major education campaign to support needy local youngsters with their schooling and to help Hong Kong parents save for their own children's studies.

The campaign was launched with an innovative six-week programme to raise funds for under-privileged children titled 'Let's Help Put Hong Kong Children on Course for Success'.

Leon Lai is supporting this community initiative and the funds raised will be donated to the Community Chest.

Over the period from May 18 to June 28, 2001, customers can contribute to the fund by purchasing HK$2 fund raising tickets at the cashier counters of any PARKnSHOP outlet - or through the PARKnSHOP Cyberstore (www.parknshop.com).

PARKnSHOP kicked-off the "Children's Education Fund Raising Campaign" with a HK$100,000 contribution.

PARKnSHOP will also contribute 5% of its profit to the fund from the total shopping-basket value of purchases made by customers who donate tickets.

"I'm urging the entire community to rally behind this meaningful social cause," said Leon Lai, who bought the first donation ticket, numbered 000001 at a campaign-launch event at PARKnSHOP's Skyline Superstore in Tsuen Wan.

"As corporations or citizens, we all have an obligation to demonstrate concern for and contribute towards educating our young generation, especially those who are less fortunate," said Logan Taylor, Chief Executive Officer of AS Watson Group's Retail Food Division, which operates PARKnSHOP. "This campaign will enable everybody to make an important contribution to raising education standards in Hong Kong," Mr Taylor added.

All money raised will be donated to The Community Chest, which will channel the fund to education-related assistance projects. Donors will also be entered into a lottery to join an "Ocean Park Education Night" (the entire venue has been secured for this event) on July 22, 2001 with Leon Lai.

In a complimentary initiative, PARKnSHOP also introduced to customers an exclusive 'Children's Education Savings Plan', designed and co-ordinated by Dao Heng Bank. The combined savings/insurance scheme enables parents to plan ahead for the tertiary education of their children. "We understand that good tertiary education is expensive, and funding their children's education is one of parents' main concerns," Mr Taylor said. "This savings plan will be the most comprehensive and best available for tertiary education in the market with unparalleled offers," said R G Sullivan, Managing Director of Dao Heng Bank Limited.

Key features of the 'Children's Education Savings Plan' include:

  • Guaranteed Education Cash Payments
  • Premium Protection
  • Extra Dividend Bonus etc

Customers joining the 'Children's Education Savings Plan' can also enjoy additional benefits through PARKnSHOP.

Those registering on or before June 28, 2001 qualify for an exclusive bonus of PARKnSHOP cash coupons equal to 1.5 times their monthly savings commitment. By presenting a HK$150 receipt from the supermarket chain, each customer also gets HK$150 cash rebate in the third month.

Parents enrolling in the education savings scheme will also indirectly support the 'Children's Education Fund Raising Campaign'. Dao Heng Bank is donating the equivalent of 5% of the first month's savings of each customer to the charity initiative.

"PARKnSHOP understands and cares for this community and our customers and strives to take care of their needs both within our stores and beyond them," Mr Taylor said. "The education campaign underlines our commitment to Hong Kong society."
