Cheung Kong Group sponsored the "Clean Up the World in Hong Kong '99" event on Saturday (September 25), the day following Mid-Autumn Festival. This marks the fourth year Cheung Kong Group sponsored the activity organized by Green Power.
In addition to promoting the event amongst tenants living in Cheung Kong and Hutchison managed residential complexes, Cheung Kong (Holdings) Ltd's Managing Director and Deputy Chairman Mr Victor Li also led a team of 70 staff and family members to actively participate in cleaning up litter left by visitors celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival at Victoria Park.
Besides Mr Li, the officiating guests at the closing ceremony included Mrs Betty H P Tung, famous singer Andy Hui, Mrs Rita Lau, Director of Urban Services and Mr Fred Ting, Deputy Director (Operations) of Regional Services.
During the closing ceremony, Mr Li said, "Cheung Kong Group has always been committed to raising the standard of living in Hong Kong, and environmental protection continues to be a crucial aspect of this endeavor. Aside from participating in many government and environmental organizations for the planning of long term strategies in Hong Kong, we also advocate environmental efforts in daily lives of families and individuals through activities carried out at residential complexes managed by our Group. The results are very encouraging. We have even won a number of awards in the Hong Kong Inter-Housing Estates Waste Recycling Competition."
Cheung Kong Group, consisting of Cheung Kong (Holdings) Ltd, Hutchison Whampoa Ltd, Cheung Kong Infrastructure Holdings Ltd and Hongkong Electric Holdings Ltd, has always been active in supporting and participating environmental protection efforts. It has taken such initiatives as setting up teams to ensure the effective use of resources and the application of environmentally friendly concepts in daily operations. The Group has also participated in many environmental activities such as tree planting, clean environment promotions, as well as environmental education projects. Coming up, Cheung Kong Group will participate in MTR's Clean Air Carnival at Victoria Park on the weekend of October 9 and 10, and sponsor the "Catch a Cuttlefish" campaign organized by The Conservancy Association in the middle of October.
