Hong Kong - The Cheung Kong Group took up sponsorship of another "forest" under the Hong Kong Government Agricultural, Fisheries and Conservation Department's Corporate Afforestation Scheme recently. This is the third "forest" sponsored by the Group under the Scheme. Located in Shek O, 24,000 saplings are to be planted in the "forest".
The tree planting activity took place last Sunday (April 9) and was attended by 150 young scouts and their parents who are tenants of residential complexes managed by The Cheung Kong Group.
Officiating at the kick-off ceremony were Mr Victor Li, Managing Director of Cheung Kong (Holdings) Ltd and Deputy Chairman of Hutchison Whampoa Ltd; Mrs Lessie Wei, JP, Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department; Mr Bosco Fung, JP, Director of Planning Department; Ms Mei Ng, Director of Friends of the Earth; and Ms Grace Woo, Executive Director of Cheung Kong (Holdings) Ltd.
At the kick-off ceremony, Mr Li said, "It has always been a mission of The Cheung Kong Group to provide quality living to Hong Kong. We have recently introduced the 'e-living' programme with the aim to make use of new technologies to further enhance people's lifestyle in the territory. In fact besides 'electronic living', 'environmental friendly living' is also an item on top of our agenda."
The young scouts and their parents commented that this was a very meaningful event - not only was it a good opportunity for parent-child bonding, it also posed a good channel for all participants to reaffirm the importance of environmental protection.
