YICT launches brand new gatehouse system

[28 April 2003, SHENZHEN] On 1 May 2003 Yantian International Container Terminals (YICT) will launch a new gatehouse management system featuring the Port Community Card (PCC). The PCC is an IC card developed by YICT. This upgrade of the entry and exit gatehouse management will reduce valuable waiting time for truck drivers. The benefits of this new system will be remarkable as there are more than 520 trucking companies with 11,500 trucks registered at YICT.

At present, this highly integrated system includes features such as reading and printing of Equipment Interchange Receipts (EIRs), printing container movement slips (CMSs), serving as a truck identity and automating the transfer of service charges. Truck drivers are now able to obtain printouts of CMSs and complete the transfer of service charges in a few seconds simply by scanning their PCC. Once officially implemented, the PCC will replace the previous Vehicle Entry Pass as the valid access permit used when entering the terminals. This will not only be more convenient for the terminal and related parties to supervise the trucks, but also helpful for trucking companies enhancing their internal management.

Through the integration with the next-generation intelligent terminal operation management system, nGen, the PCC system will be gradually applied to automate the management of YICT's gatehouses. Looking ahead, YICT plans to cooperate with related organisations to develop other functions of the PCC, further streamlining procedures and improving operation rates on trucks.

In addition to the launch of the PCC system, a temporary road for container trucks entering the terminals, jointly funded by YICT and the Shenzhen Yantian Port Group, will officially open on 29 April. This road enables the separation of container trucks from public traffic, ensuring the smooth flow of traffic during the construction of the Mingzhu Interchange and the Phase IIIA Project of the terminal.

Flying over Shenyan Road and connecting Mingzhu Road and the YICT Main Entrance Road, this temporary road for container trucks is 1,658 metres in length with a width of 14 metres. It has been designed as a one way road with two lanes. A speed limit of 30 km/hr has been designated and all the necessary traffic signs have been installed. Once open, all container trucks must use this road to enter the terminals.
