PRESS RELEASE

The Hong Kong Jockey Club races ahead on
advanced Metro Ethernet Network powered
by Hutchison Global Communications-led consortium

Hong Kong, 16 December 2003 - The Hong Kong Jockey Club (the Club) has appointed a consortium led by Hutchison Global Communications (HGC) to implement the Club's Multi-Services Network Infrastructure (MSNI) to enhance its wide-ranging provision of services.

The HGC-led consortium has delivered an end-to-end solution to the Club for its MSNI services platform. The project solution helps the Club to integrate its multi-services, including its betting facilities, corporate communications and network monitoring into a single network infrastructure, enabling highly efficient use of network with multiple network services between its central sites at Shatin and Happy Valley and 116 Off-Course Betting (OCB) branches across the territory.

The Club has also chosen HGC's MetroNET data network service for the wide area network (WAN) connectivity of its two central sites to a total of 40 OCB branches. The implementation replaces the Club's existing Frame Relay communication services, providing seamless migration and greater transaction speeds.

The new network infrastructure enables the Club to support speedy and secure transactions. Riding on the unlimited scalability of HGC's network, the MSNI capacity will comply with the escalating demands of the Club's multi-services in a flexible manner.

As the consortium leader, HGC provides project management, network design, technical consultancy, implementation, network management, maintenance and enhancements to the total solution. To ensure the best possible service, HGC also offers 24x7 Customer Services and its Network Management Centre for technical support and round-the-clock network monitoring.

Other members of the consortium include NTT Com Asia / HKNet and Macroview Telecom, which provide support in solution design, system integration, equipment supply and financing, as well as on-going maintenance.

"The Club is committed to enhancing value for our customers. The advanced Multi-Services Network Infrastructure allows us to provide more convenient and quality betting services across the territory," said Steve Beason, Executive Director, Information Technology, The Hong Kong Jockey Club. "The end-to-end solution provided by the HGC-led consortium helps maximise the cost-effectiveness and efficiency of our network operations. The high level of data integrity, network availability and scalability delivered are exactly what we need to support the Club's increasing transaction volumes and expanding service variety."

Leveraging HGC's self-built fibre optic network, the new MSNI solution reaps the benefits of HGC's carrier-class Gigabit Ethernet infrastructure and dedicated private network to ensure maximum network availability to the Club. The full redundancy of the HGC network will also secure the Club's transaction network without a single point of failure, which is crucial to the Club's heavy-volume and high value transactions.

To meet the Club's expanding services, the advanced network will maximise scalabilities, allowing the Club to rollout additional services and implement network upgrades easily without affecting its network topology. At the same time, the high flexibility of the MetroNET service will enable the easy upgrade of all remote links as and when required.

Steve Lam, Sales and Marketing Director of HGC said, "We are proud that our world-class network infrastructure and state-of-the-art MetroNET service have been chosen by the Hong Kong Jockey Club. The successful delivery of this quality solution, our excellent services and 24x7 technical support for this MSNI project is just further testimony of HGC's strengths and leadership in Hong Kong's telecommunications industry."

Shoji Takahashi, Managing Director of NTT Com Asia and HKNet, and Victor Share, Chief Executive Officer of Macroview Telecom, said. "We are equally pleased that our carefully-selected designs and thoroughly-tested solutions have met the Club's stringent network requirements. With our proven track record and solid experience in handling global IP projects, we can ensure the delivery of superb solution for the MSNI project.
