WAP Banking comes to India
Orange ties-up with HDFC Bank to offer mobile internet banking

Orange customers with HDFC Bank accounts can now pay their utility bills as well as get personal finance information through their WAP [Wireless Application Protocol] mobile phones. WAP is a protocol which makes the Internet available on WAP-compatible mobile phones.

Commenting on the association, Mr. Sandip Das, Chief Operating Officer, Hutchison Max Telecom said, "This is yet another step for Orange in our commitment to offer our customers leading-edge services in leading-edge time. We were the first to offer our customers SMS-based mobile banking in India - indeed, one of the first in Asia. We are delighted now to be the first to extend this to Internet mobile banking. "

Orange customers can get information on their mobile phones relating to their last three transactions, issue stop payment instructions and request for account statements and cheque-books. They can also find out the status of cheques issued and inquire about fixed deposit schemes. Additionally, Orange customers with HDFC bank accounts can pay their mobile and utility bills of MTNL, MSEB and BSES.

Whether it is Goregaon or Churchgate, an Orange customer has wirefree access through WAP, which is a totally secure technology channel for Orange customers.
