During the campaign period, customers using the bag and do not need any plastic shopping bag, could get one chop at the designated checkout counters for making purchase of $50 or more. With ten chops, customers will receive full cash refund of the bag. We expect the total amount of refund could exceed $500,000.

Customers who reuse the PARKnSHOP environmental bag and do not need any plastic shopping bag will be awarded with more savings. By presenting the stamp collection card and make purchase of $50 or more, customers can get double bonus stamps for our current running well-received 'Lifestyle Rewards Marathon' programme and redeem a series of popular lifestyle merchandise products including bedding, cookware, health and beauty product and small appliances.

  • Large-scale fundraiser to support local green groups

A fundraiser will also be run for the first two weeks of the campaign. Collection boxes will be placed at all checkout counters for customers to donate their loose change. Besides, PARKnSHOP will donate $1 for each environmental friendly bag sold, representing 14.5% of the sales. All proceed will be donated to local green groups to support their environmental conservation and education initiatives.

  • Working for a greener environment

The above programme will be carried out with our current environmental conservation policy. Starting from year 2003, PARKnSHOP has been joining an 'Eco-pine' program. All used carton boxes and paper in PARKnSHOP stores are collected and treated by our recycling partner for recycling. For every 10 tones of paper we collected, a tree will be planted in PRC region, including Hong Kong. So far, more than 7500 tones of paper have been collected, which means more than 750 trees are to be planted within this year. The 'Eco-pine' programme will be extended to other inter-city environment-beautifying schemes, a further effort to a create greener and more comfortable living environment.

Internally, we conduct regular training programmes for all frontline staff on the importance of reducing plastic bag usage and energy saving. We also exercise strict control on the allocation of plastic bags to each store.

To further reduce usage of plastic bags, all frontline staff will proactively remind customers to use less plastic bags. Such message will also be delivered via in-store broadcasting radio and promotional tent cards.

Under PARKnSHOP's current plastic bag cash rebate programme, more than 4,700,000 plastic bags were saved just in 2004. PARKnSHOP believe that this new programme could help boosting the number of saved bags to double.
