London - December 19, 2001 - Hutchison 3G UK Limited ('Hutchison 3G'), winner of the UK's largest UMTS licence, today announced the appointment of John Barton as Sales Director. Mr. Barton joins Hutchison 3G from One 2 One where he was Director of Sales & Distribution.

Mr. Barton, 48, will be responsible for the development and management of all sales channels.

1. Hutchison 3G

Hutchison 3G UK Ltd. ("Hutchison 3G") holds licence 'A' (a third-generation mobile licence), which was issued by the UK government in May 2000. This licence was for the largest block of spectrum auctioned in the UK, as it was set-aside for a new entrant to the market. The licence consists of 15MHz of paired spectrum, and 5MHz of unpaired spectrum.

3G is a convergence of mobile telephony and information systems which promises to change people's lives by enabling them to access information when, where and how they want. The 3G standard (agreed throughout Europe, Japan, China, and the rest of Asia) is formally known as UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System). John Barton, Sales Director of Hutchison 3G

John Barton was formerly Director of Sales & Distribution at One 2 One. He was head of sales activity, with responsibility for the management of all sales channels.

Before One 2 One, Barton was Managing Director of Phones 4 U, the retail arm of Caudwell Communications, for two and a half years. He has over ten years experience in the wireless industry including executive roles with Cellnet and Talkland.

John is married, with one son and lives in Northwood, Middlesex.
