Orange partners with Chinese Books Cyberstore to roll
out comprehensive mobile online shopping service

First to provide a secure and reliable infrastructure for m-commerce service

Orange in partnership with Chinese Books Cyberstore (CBC) is developing the most comprehensive mobile phone online shopping service in Hong Kong. Orange WAP service users will be able to use their mobile phones to log on to CBC's online shopping site - one of the largest e-tailing sites in Hong Kong - at any time to purchase a full range of lifestyle goods. All purchases from the CBC site will be included on Orange's monthly service bill.

The partnership with CBC will enable Orange WAP service users to purchase a variety of goods from books, comics, music and movie CDs, to entertainment products, gifts and high-tech products through a user-friendly interface.

CBC will also highlight specially recommended products from each product category. It will also provide product-related information, such as book reviews, products offered at special prices and hot product details, as well as the latest music and movie news.

The operation of the service is very simple. All products on the CBC site are categorised for easy reference and users can go to any category to obtain product descriptions.

After users have chosen their products from the CBC site, they simply place the order and enter their password. The purchasing process is then finished. Users are not required to enter their credit card information. All purchases from the CBC site will be included on Orange's monthly service bill. All customers need to do is to settle the bill with a single payment at the end of each month.

Orange will assign a dedicated password to every customer. At the same time, in order to create a secure and reliable environment for online transactions, CBC will deploy Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technologies. This ensures that customers' information is correctly encrypted.

Hutchison Telecom is the first network provider in Hong Kong to bill customers for the online purchases in the monthly service bill, creating a new payment method for m-commerce services. "The WAP technology is gaining popularity and m-commerce has become a hot development item of Orange," said Stephen Ngan, deputy managing director and sales and marketing director (Wireless) at Hutchison Telecom. "The combination of a secure and reliable electronic transaction system and the broad range of products offered on CBC's online shopping site will enable us to stay ahead of the competition with services tailored to our customers' needs.

"As one of the largest online shopping sites in the market, CBC offers an enormous choice of consumer goods. With our innovative payment method, customers do not need to enter any credit card information, which ensures further security and efficiency in the transaction process. Together, CBC and Hutchison Telecom will provide the most comprehensive mobile phone online shopping service in Hong Kong."

"It is our honour to work with Orange. The partnership is a great opportunity for CBC," said Philip Leung, chief executive officer at CBC. "Hutchison has a total of 1.4 million mobile phone users. This extensive customer base will help us to reach out to a broader range of customers. At the same time, this service also brings another convenient electronic shopping platform for CBC's customers."
